Think being fit is all about nutrition and exercise? Think again! Consistently getting enough sleep is just as important to your health as what you do in the gym, and what you put in your body. Lack of sleep has not only been linked impaired reaction times, concentration, and problem solving abilities, but too few Zs is also related to risk of heart attack, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and psychological dysfunction. Too many sleepless nights might even make it harder for you to stick to your nutrition plan, as the peptides in the brain that stimulate and control hunger and satiety become irregular with poor sleep. So do yourself a favor this weekend and catch up on your rest if you have been neglecting yourself. Then, resolve to make sleep a priority throughout the week, even when you are busy!
