This past weekend Team CrossFit Scottsdale was all over the map with one team in Prescott at Captain CrossFit for the Winter Open and one team was in England at Brunel University for the London Throw down. Experience matters when competing in this sport at any level but when you travel it makes it even harder especially traveling to a new country. Tip your hats and clap your hands for both Nick Zamruno who won 1st place overall and Melissa Einbinder who finished the two day event in 3rd place behind 2011 4th place in the world finisher Sam Briggs. It was an honor competing side by side and coaching both athletes to the podium. This was the largest CrossFit competition outside of Regional’s the country has ever seen with teams and individuals coming from the U.S, England, Germany, Spain, Italy, France and Hungry.
As the top 2 CrossFit athletes in Scottsdale, Mel and Nick earned the right to claim “Fittest in Europe” after the long 9 wod weekend. Perfect timing going into the first week of the CrossFit Games open qualifier for Mel this was her first competition since last years 7th place regional finish and Nick’s first win with many, many more to come after back to back 2nd place finishes.
Next Wednesday begins 5 weeks of madness with the start of the 2012 CrossFit Games season. We will kick it off at 7:00pm on Wednesday with a strategy session by Coach Kayyem . ”In the spirit of competition I want to see everyone do this fitness challenge, especially the first timers” This will also be your last chance to register for Friday Night Lights 48 hours after the release of 12.1 where CrossFit Scottsdale will host over 75 athletes for this one night event.
Sure to be Epic with some of the best in the state under one roof. Brennan, Blanton, Egyed, Trujillo, Einbinder, Borencsi, Zambruno, Gartrell. If you don’t know who these guys are? That’s ok come, bring some popcorn and get a good seat. This is open for all levels (scaled, masters, RX) and if you would like to judge or volunteer please let us know at info@CrossFitScottsdale.com.
