Erin Wellendorf

Erin Wellendorf Before & After

When I first walked in to CrossFit Scottsdale in August I sat down to fill out the initial form that asks about your fitness goals. Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn’t know what my fitness goals were. I always thought I was pretty healthy. I had run two marathons. I like to hike. I didn’t eat like someone who should be on the Biggest Loser. I wasn’t grossly overweight. I wasn’t a total couch potato. Pretty healthy right? Yeah, not so much…

Here’s what I did know: I was scared and not just at the sight of a CrossFit gym with pull-up bars and olympic weights. The previous June my “girly” doctor told me that my blood pressure was high and I should see a primary care doctor about it. Then in July I lost my Dad to kidney failure resulting from diabetes and probably all the drugs he was on because of a bout with congestive heart failure. He was only 61. He was what I called “pretty healthy” too before all the trouble started. Clearly it was time to make some major changes in my life.

So here I am a little over a year later with normal blood pressure, no sign of diabetes in sight, 18 pounds lighter, and five inches skinnier. More importantly, I am stronger. Physically yes, but also mentally. Because this community of people has helped me do “fitnessey” things I never thought I could, I am more confident in the rest of my life too. More confident in my faith, in my  relationships and in knowing that it’s only failure if I don’t try! I can’t say thanks enough to all the coaches at CrossFit Scottsdale and all the students too. It is so unique and amazing to have such a strong community of all different people as inspiration and support at a gym. So…

Show Up, Don’t Quit! (Oh yeah, and we will all be here to help you do it!)
