Her words carry weight that would break less amazing women’s legs. She’s won trophies for her game face alone, she has a real job, women want to be like her, men want to be with her,
“She is the fittest women in Arizona and Her name is Coach Melissa “Mel” Einbinder”.
Exactly one year ago Mel showed up for an evening class and as she jumped up on the pull up bar to Kip the room went silent… Who the “F” was that? As the gossip started and stories of her working for Cirque Du Soliel and Zumanity circled the gym I asked her to try out for our Regional team the following night. Not only did she show up but she beat some of our boys and made the team.
As a former Division 1 track athlete at Georgia Tech Mel found CrossFit Las Vegas and through a series of transitions in her career as an Engineer made the move to Scottsdale and found us. After Regional’s in 2010 we sat down and discussed what the next year would look like with training, programming and her goal of making Regional’s as an individual. Mel started competing as well in local competitions and Won the Rx challenge, Won the Hammer by a landslide and beat everyone men included in Friday Night lights. It wasn’t until the end of February at the Southwest Throwdown that Mel did not come in 1st place and her 5th place finish behind some serious BEAST’s made her realize she needed to work on some things before the open. Mel started working the Olympic Lifts and integrated the Performance Menu, then she began two a days (after a 12 hour work shift) and lifting her least favorite movements the front squat & squat clean. She was becoming the quintessential athlete and always stayed humble.
at the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games Southwest Regional’s was epic, amazing, and unbelievable. She never once questioned her size or skills. She knew she was prepared for anything and she was gaining confidence going into Day 3. Mel actually got better as the weekend continued while beating out some of the biggest names in CrossFit to WIN the title of “Fittest Women in Arizona”.
Congratulations to you Coach Mel your hard work, dedication and sportsmanship are well deserved and much appreciated from all of us at CrossFit Scottsdale.
